THERE were mixed fortunes for two North Midlands teams over the weekend.
The county senior team missed out on a place in the final of the Tetley's County Shield but the North Midlands sevens squad booked a trip to Twickenham by winning the Tetley's County Sevens regional qualifying event at Broadstreet.
The sevens squad, coached by former Scotland and British Lions international Craig Chalmers, beat Warwickshire 'B' 38-19 and Warwickshire 'A' 14-7 to win the Midlands event and secure a place in the national semi-finals at Twickenham next Saturday. The final of the Tetley's County Sevens will be played at Twicken-ham on the same day.
North Midlands have already reached the final of the Tetley's National Under-20 Championship but the senior side missed out on joining them when they were beaten 27-19 by Northumber-land in the semi-finals.
