IT'S time Margaret Rowley stopped living in the past (You Say, Friday, April 18) and accepted that all the misinformation and false claims by the Liberal Democrats are easily seen through by the Wychavon electorate.

The Conservative administration's key aim was to manage the council's services with a strict budget and deliver service improvements.

In doing so, we have not been afraid to take essential decisions, even when these were difficult to take.

The Droitwich Lido issue is regularly raised and there is no point in the council spending more taxpayers' money to prop up a failing facility.

Our officers have often reminded us that it would be cheaper for the council to give all those who have used the pool when it was open £5 cash to go away and we would still be in profit.

We are, however, seeking to work with the private sector to deliver an improved facility available for use for longer.

This cannot be delivered overnight. But we are still working at it and good progress is being made.

The Liberals did indeed make substantial cuts in staffing and, as a result, we had a failing planning service, now among the best in the country following the Conservative council's substantial investment.

The newly re-elected Conservative administration will build upon the excellent work done by its colleagues in the last four years.

Get real, Margaret. You might be fooling yourself, but clearly not the people of Wychavon.

COUN MARTIN JENNINGS,

Wychavon District Council.
