A FATHER-OF-TWO, who fell off a scooter and had also swerved another vehicle across the road, was three times the drink-drive limit on both occasions.

Worcester magistrates heard how Conrad Jones, aged 43, was spotted by police with a "glazed expression" on his face, while driving a Nissan Primera on Saturday, January 18.

Prosecuting, Mary Wallace, also outlined how Jones of Coniston Close, Malvern, had smelt of drink when police were called to a traffic accident on Sunday, March 16. He had fallen off a scooter.

"Police on patrol saw a red Nissan Primera travelling along Court Road, Malvern in the middle of the road. He saw the police car and tried to correct its position," said Miss Wallace.

"The policeman stopped and asked him if he was all right, but the defendant just had a glazed expression."

At the road traffic accident in Callow End, Miss Wallace said Jones smelt "strongly of intoxicants," and had fallen off a Peugeot scooter.

Jones admitted to driving above the limit and to having no insurance on both occasions. In the first incident he had 265mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The drink-drive limit is 80mg.

In March he had 114mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The drink-drive limit is 35mcg.

Mark Lister, defending, said his client realised the stupidity of driving with alcohol in his system.

"Conrad Jones clearly has something of a difficulty in knowing when he is over the limit," he said

"When he has drunk alcohol he is rather more impulsive than he otherwise would be."

Magistrates sentenced Jones to a 12-month community rehabilitation order, disqualifying him from driving for three-years.

He was fined £150 for having no insurance and £100 costs.
