Vastly-experienced Flynn took over the captaincy in Mark Blake's absence after putting pen to paper on a year's deal before the first league game with Lincoln.

The influential central or right-sided midfielder is known for his tough tackling and will to win, having spent several seasons in the Premier League.

Flynn went from non-league Halesowen Town to Coventry City at the age of 23 and played 97 league games for them, many at the highest level, before Derby County paid £225,000 for his services in 1995.

He won promotion with Derby to the Premier League before a £260,000 fee took him to West Brom two years later.

Flynn was also a popular figure at the Hawthorns in more than 100 league appearances and at Tranmere where he was released to in 2000.

But part of the cost-cutting measures made him a free agent in the summer of 2002 and he rejected interest from other clubs to sign for Ian Britton at Harriers.
