A LITTLE girl will spend her birthday running a charity race in memory of her grandfather.

Eight-year-old Hannah Taylor will wear a pink sticker on her back saying "in memory of pops" as she pounds Worcester's streets on Sunday, June 15, in the annual Race for Life that raises hundreds of thousands of pounds for cancer research.

Hannah lost her grandfather in December last year to prostate cancer, aged 69, and it will be her first birthday without him.

She will be joined in the race by her mother Tracey, who says it will be very emotional running in memory of her father on what, coincidentally, is Father's Day.

"My father, Harry Lodge, was a very lovely man and we will be running in his memory," said Mrs Taylor, from Silverdale Avenue, Worcester.

Mrs Taylor, a teaching assistant at St Barnabas Primary School, Worcester, will be running her second Race for Life.

"We're all there for the same reason - to raise money for our loved ones," she said.

The women-only 5km race is now in its fifth year in Worcester, and organisers are hoping this year's race will break the record of 4,000 entrants.

Already, 2,522 women and girls have entered this year's Race for Life in Worcester, and organisers are urging everyone to sign up before the entry deadline of Sunday, June 8.
