REIGNING Midlands mini hockey champions from Bromsgrove finished third on goal difference at their first national finals.
Bromsgrove School's U13s team, who won the Midlands title during the Easter holidays, won two, drew one and lost one at the round-robin event at Cannock Hockey Club last Sunday.
The team lost their first game 2-1 against eventual winners Kent College but thrashed Alderley Edge 4-1 in their next match.
Within ten minutes of their third match against Millfield, Bromsgrove were 3-0 down but got one back before the break.
Rupert Waters' strike and a last gasp Chris Griffiths goal gave the Worcester Road school a well deserved 3-3 draw.
Bromsgrove defeated Old Loughtonians 2-1 in their final match but were pushed into third on goal difference by Millfield.
Griffiths was named player of the tournament.
Coach Craig Parnham said: "I am very pleased with the way the boys participated in their first national finals.
"They showed great promise for the future and I am looking forward to seeing their skills develop still further next season."
