A SCHOOL football team from Droitwich Spa snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to claim their first ever county cup.
Witton Middle School's U11s side were just five minutes from losing their Worcestershire cup final when they trailed 1-0 against Comberton Middle School at Wythall's Britannic Assurance Sports Ground on Friday, May 2.
But captain Paul Downing grabbed the last gasp equaliser to send the game into extra time and ultimately the Old Coach Road school won 3-2.
Comberton had taken a first half lead when Witton goalkeeper Sam Amos saw the ball loop over his head and in but a battling performance eventually allowed Downing to level.
Witton, who defeated Bromsgrove's St John's 4-1 in the semi-finals, took an early advantage in the first period with a superb left foot shot from Oliver Bath but almost immediately Comberton made it 2-2 from the penalty spot.
Just as penalties were looming, Bath scoring his second from a tight angle.
