A DISILLUSIONED Droitwich resident claims a Spa housing association is folding through lack of community support.

Chairman of Chawson Residents Association Doris Bowdler has dedicated her life to the group for the past three years but claims to be "fed up" with the lack of support from Wychavon District Council and the Housing Association.

The association met for the first time in January 2000 after interest was raised among residents on the estate.

Around 100 people turned out to the first meeting and the group discussed ways in which they could clean up the estate and reduce the crime rate.

Doris said: "Everyone was down in the dumps when we first started and so we wanted to do something about the state of the area. We called it the forgotten estate."

She claimed they received the wholehearted backing of the council to begin with but interest dwindled and little was done to help the association.

The team of disillusioned committee members has now dropped from eight to only two.

"So much money is pumped into the Westlands and Mulberry Tree Hill estates so why isn't more put into our area?" asked Doris.

"There is so much that could be done to improve the area, like more litter bins, a community hall and improved footpaths. The estate is a mess."

Councillor Don Lawley ( Droitwich East) was extremely disappointed the association was set to fold.

He said: "I am utterly amazed that this association is set to finish at a time when things were coming to together so well with the community centre," he said.

"We have managed to gain funding from the district council for a new community centre to be built in Blake Avenue, where the present one is situated.

"It is just a shame they will not be there when the projects comes to fruition.

"I just hope that someone else will be able to take over and help save the resident's association."
