THE members race at next Monday's Albrighton Woodland fixture at Chaddesley Corbett will have a direct bearing on the destiny of several awards at the last meeting to be staged in the West Midlands during 2003, writes Pete Mansell.

Jane Williams is still in contention for the Novice Rider and Owner/Trainer/Rider trophies and successes for Hoodwinker and Supreme Citizen at this meeting would crown a wonderful season for the 20-year-old.

Jim Callows' Broome (Kidderminster) stable needs to secure victory to ensure Mr Naborro takes the Novice Horse award, but they will need to find a new jockey after regular pilot Adrian Wintle suffered a broken ankle at last weekend's Golden Valley meeting.

Proper Primitive heads the table in the mares category and second or third place would secure this prize for Wendy Bayliss's one horse Halesowen stable.

Her nearest rival Campden Kitty, who holds entries in both the Intermediate and Restricted, would need to win one of those events and hope that her rival fails to make the frame.

The Novice Riders table is headed by 16-year-old Worcester schoolboy Tom Weston and it would really be a feather in his cap if he could secure this title at his first attempt. Caught at Dawn has been responsible for his position in this contest but the Hindlip trained gelding was disappointing at the Radnor recently.

Hoodwinker and Supreme Citizen also hold engagements in the Mixed Open and victory for either horse would catapult Miss Williams to the top of the novice Riders Table.

Lava and Campden Kitty hold engagements in the Intermediate and both horses still have winning chances in the area awards. The latter needs to win for her Taddington-based connections and hope nearest rival Proper Primitive fails in her attempt to land the Members, while Lava has a chance in the Novice Award if she is successful.

The first of seven races next Monday start at 2pm.
