AS a resident of Birmingham Road, I was up till now reasonably sanguine about the prospect of the sports, leisure and entertainment complex proposed for the site of the Abbey Stadium.
On the basis that Redditch would benefit from a development of this sort and bring much-needed facilities, I did not have any great objection given that it was planned to develop a site already used for similar activities.
However, having seen the plan revealed in your paper (Advertiser, May 14), I can see that I was being rather naive in imagining that the developers would not seek to extract every last penny of profit from the site.
It is clear the development is now planned to greatly expand from the existing confines of the Abbey Stadium.
In particular, I am appalled that it is now planned to completely redevelop the attractive wooded area adjacent to the cemetery bordered by Bordesley Lane and the Alvechurch Highway.
Not only that, but the proposal is to transform this attractive area with a pub and three fast food outlets, hardly something that is necessary.
Given the nature of this expansive and exploitative project, I will now wholeheartedly object to this development and support any protest group until a more appropriate development is put forward.
