FIFTY-newly qualified nurses have chosen to start their careers with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Many of the new recruits have come from University College Worcester, and will replace expensive agency nurses.

They will work at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital and Redditch's Alexandra Hospital.

They will benefit from a range of in-house professional development programmes run by the trust's professional development team, which aims to help them change from student nurses to staff nurses.

It helps newly qualified staff nurses to consolidate and enhance their existing knowledge and skills.

They will attend in-house study days, with support from an experienced clinical nurse preceptor.

"The trust offers a wide range of opportunities for professional development for its nurses, allowing them to develop their particular interests and skills," said the trust's director of nursing, Cath Plain.

The trust has also recently recruited more than 60 qualified nurses from India, helping it to provide greater continuity of care at its hospitals and reduce its wage bill.
