A MAN deliberately smashed his truck into his former girlfriend's car before driving onto her father's pub, wrecking a Jeep and leading police on a chase through Evesham, Worcester Magistrates have heard.

Steven Cox, from Aldington Sidings, in Evesham, had earlier admitted two counts of criminal damage, dangerous driving and driving while above the legal alcohol limit.

His breath-alcohol level was 60 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Peter Parson, prosecuting, said Cox, aged 32, had been having rows with former partner, Natasha Cox, and on Friday, February 16, he deliberately backed his seven-and-a-half tonne truck into her car, which was parked at her home in Lower End, Bricklehampton.

Cox then drove to The Bell Inn, on Church Street, Evesham, which is owned by Natasha's father, and backed into a Jeep Cherokee, belonging to Nicola Steggle.

Mr Parson added that he went on to lead the police on a chase around the town in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police tried to end the chase by using a 'stinger', a spiked device that stretches out across the road puncturing a vehicle's tyres bringing it to a stop.

"During the chase, at one stage he moved across to the other side of road to prevent the police from over-taking him," said Mr Parson.

"He again moved across the road to prevent himself from being stopped by a police stinger.

"On one occasion he went through a red light," said Mr Parsons. "His dangerous driving was aggravated by the alcohol."

No mitigation was given for Cox's behaviour as the magistrates agreed to adjourn for a pre-sentence report.

The court ordered that Cox return on Wednesday June 18 .

Cox was granted bail on the condition that he is not to go to his former partner's home or contact her, unless via a solicitor's letter.

He was also ordered not to visit The Bell Inn, Evesham.
