VILLAGE HALL: The village hall management committee met on Tuesday evening under the chairmanship of the hall's new chairman, Mrs Paula Christie. There was a good attendance of representatives, though apologies for absence were received from Alan Davies, representative of the art group.
One of the first items of business was the election of a new treasurer, Mr Noel Christie, who had volunteered his services at the annual meeting of the parish council and whose willingness to take on this post was a considerable relief to all present. Much of the rest of the meeting centred on discussing what now needs to be done to smarten up the hall again by cleaning and decorating while also obtaining financial help from various bodies who might be prepared to give grants for renovating and updating where necessary. Funds are now looking healthier and further good news on this front came from Liz Nunn who reported that the recent musical evening given by Glenn Webb and his partners in Fascinating Rhythm had made a profit of £537. The annual clean-and-tidy of the hall forecourt was arranged for Friday, June 13, at 6.30pm. Extra help from members of any organisations who use the hall would be welcome. Gardening tools, buckets and brushes, bin bags etc, will be needed.
ST JAMES' CHURCH: The Benefice Treasure Hunt took place on Sunday, with the weather cheering up considerably for the occasion and making it easier for participants to wander through all four churchyards looking for clues. Unfortunately, numbers were lower than anticipated, which was disappointing especially for the organisers and the tea hostesses, but those who did take part enjoyed themselves and pronounced the event a big success.
Advance notice is given of the church's annual fete which will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, June 14, on the village hall forecourt and the front part of the school yard.
