LENT LUNCHES: As the result of the lunches arranged during Lent at the invitation of Peter and Penny Burch, £334 was raised for bikes for clergy in the rural parishes in Tanzania. The lunches were well supported and thanks are due to all those who helped Penny to prepare and those who attended.
PARISH WALKS: As from May and throughout the summer months, the parish walks will be in the evenings, on Tuesdays, leaving the Jubilee Tree at 7pm. Inquiries to Ruth Daintith (853845).
CHRISTIAN AID: The annual Christian Aid Week is under way and the village collectors are making their house-to-house collections. Any inquiries to 853400.
WEDNESDAY CLUB: The two April meetings were again much enjoyed. At the first Peter Gale spoke on English Parish Churches and his knowledge of the subject with his illustrative slides and charts provided a most interesting afternoon.
At the following meeting the arranged speaker did not arrive so the meeting heard some interesting facts and reminiscences of old Broadway and Willersey and, later, a quiz.
The next talk is on The Channel Tunnel by Mr Norman Ellis. The season will end on June 11 with a Tea Party and Divertimenti organised by the committee.
COFFEE MORNING: St Peter's Church held its coffee morning at the village hall on Bank Holiday Monday in aid of Church funds, with the usual large attendance.
VILLAGE HALL COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning organised by the hall management committee will be held on Bank Holiday Monday in the hall at 10.30am. The committee is well on its way in raising the funds for the recently-completed improvements but there is still much to be done to complete hall re-decoration. Donations, gifts and support all most welcome.
MOBILE POLICE STATION: The next visit of the mobile police station will be on Friday, May 30, between 3.15pm and 4.15pm on the Green. These visits are much appreciated and afford villagers an opportunity of discussing any policing problems. Other than 999 calls please ring 0845 090 1234.
MAUNDY THURSDAY: This year's historic Maundy Thursday Service at which the Queen presented the Maundy Money was held for the first time at Gloucester Cathedral. Of those chosen to receive the honour two Willersey residents were included, Mrs Beatrice Dirkin and Mr Maurice Andrews, who both very much enjoyed the occasion and appreciated their being selected.
