TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: On a sunny May morning, the chairman welcomed members and one visitor to the meeting of the Townswomen's Guild, and said that she had just heard on the radio that Mrs Polly Vacher, whom the Guild had sponsored, was just setting off on her Round the World flight, in her single-engined plane.
A letter of thanks was read from the Mayor of Pershore, Mr R Hampton, who, with the Mayoress, Mrs V Wood, had attended the birthday lunch, at the Railway Inn, a most enjoyable occasion. Mrs Herbert was thanked for producing the excellent entertainment given by the Guilded Lilies after the lunch.
Mrs S Clark had written thanking those members who had sent cards etc following her recent operation.
Members were reminded by Mrs Meller, of the visit to Malvern, to the Arts and Crafts Exhibition on June 7, when the coach will leave Paddock Close at 11am and Broad Street at 11.05am.
A coach has been booked to take a party to The Swan Theatre, on June 19, to see Guys and Dolls, the cost will be £10.50 inclusive.
Mrs Loach reported on Monday's meeting of the Literary Appreciation group, when much discussion took place following their reading of Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley.
It is hoped that the Ramblers Group can meet again on May 20 (weather permitting), setting off from the Abbey car park at 10am for a ramble around Pershore.
Mrs Lockhart wished both Mrs A Brown and Mrs S Simons and the quiz team, good luck for when they compete in the Federation scrabble and quiz finals on Saturday afternoon.
She mentioned that Miss D Wright has now left Pershore for Brighton and would welcome letters and calls from members.
After coffee the raffle was drawn and raised £54 for the charity.
Members then saw slides of Kenya, which were shown by Mrs C Sheldon, who talked about her life there in the 60s and of some adventures she had while climbing Mounts Kenya and Kilimanjaro. Mrs Botterill gave the vote of thanks.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 3 in Wulstan Hall, at 10am when the resolution to be debated at the NCM in June will be discussed.
The sales table will be items for the store cupboard.

ARTS THEATRE CLUB: The club held its AGM on April 25 at Pershore Town Hall. It was followed by a short programme of words and music provided by members of the club. Two outings have been arranged for June, to a concert at Malvern Theatre on June 5, and to celebrate the club's 40th anniversary, a trip on the River Avon from Tewkesbury with a strawberry tea on June 25.
The final evening meeting of the season will be held at the Town Hall at 7.30pm on May 16, when the speaker will be Michael Blair, his subject being Walter Plinge. Subscriptions for the coming season are now due, the cost being £5.

ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION: A committee meeting is to be held on Wednesday, May 14 at Pershore Working Men's Club commencing at 8pm.
FLOWER AND CRAFT SHOW: Pershore Tourism Association are holding the annual flower and craft show on Saturday, August 9, between 1pm and 5pm. The show is being held at The Angel Hotel Riverside Gardens, by permission of Mr Juan Mendez. Admission is £1.50. The application forms for exhibits for all the classes is now available, and must be returned to Jane Daniels of Blue, Broad Street, Pershore or Val Wood, 20, Bridge Street, by Wednesday, August 6, to ensure entry.
There are 134 classes. Classes include various fruit, vegetable and flower classes plus a wide variety of home produce, arts, crafts, photography, children's exhibits and knitware.
RBL WOMENS SECTION: The May meeting of RBL Pershore Women's Section took place at Wulstan Hall. The meeting was opened by chairman Wendy Griffiths, followed by the secretary's and treasurer's reports.
Arrangements for carnival were discussed.
Ray Green, who had been the branch delegate at national conference, gave her report.
After refreshments and raffle, members heard a talk about his work given by David Griffiths, a principal officer at Long Lartin Prison. Laura Joyce gave the vote of thanks. The next meeting is on June 3, old and new members are welcome.
