A SIGN telling people not to feed the Canada Geese has caused much hilarity for a visitor from the north.
Terry Duncan, a retired journalist from Bridlington, spent three days in the town with his wife last week when he noticed an ice cream vending canal boat selling bags of bread for 50p.
"The notice on the council board suggested visitors do not encourage feeding," he said. "Yet the ice cream man, presumably council licensed, was doing just that."
Council spokesman Beverley Hemming confirmed that the man was a licensed vendor, but the council was unaware he was selling bread on his boat.
She added that he was not breaking any laws by doing so, and said: "I suppose he was just feeding the ducks and swans because people go down with loaves of bread to feed the ducks anyway."
Mr Duncan called the council's response "hilarious", adding: "So it's all right to feed the ducks and swans, but you can't feed the geese. That's the craziest statement I've heard in my life."
