HOCKEY: Unlucky Stourport failed to lift the National Hockey Association's Men's Veterans Cup after losing 4-3 to Canterbury on penalty strokes.

The match was level at 2-2 by the end but it ended in disappointment for Stourport who had powered through to the final stage.

Canterbury's Roly Brookeman opened the scoring through a penalty corner after six minutes but David Knott equalised with a field goal 14 minutes later.

Former Olympic hero Sean Kerly fired home a penalty stroke for Canterbury in the 51st minute.

But Stourport again levelled, this time through Steve Taylor's penalty corner, before losing cruelly.

Meanwhile, Kate Bailey scooped three trophies at Stourport's annual awards dinner at Wharton Park Golf Club.

Bailey won the ladies' first team's most valuable player, voted for by her team-mates, which was presented by club chairman Taylor.

She was also handed the women's top goal scorer by Pakistan international Imran Yousaf and a similar accolade by the Worcestershire League.

The Worcestershire County Championship trophy was received by firsts' captain Fran Long.

Former international player Knott was Stourport's overall top scorer with 97 goals in all matches.
