LUDLOW has one of the oldest rifle clubs in the country, celebrating its 100th birthday last year.
And the club is still going strong as was clear from the good turnout at the annual dinner held at The Unicorn which was presided over by the president Mr Ralph Jones and chairman, Mr Henry Lewis.
After an excellent meal, the secretary, Mr William Rees, reported on the achievements of the club's teams over the last year before the trophies for the 2002 Summer season and the 2002/03 Winter season were presented by Mrs Averil Norton, whose late husband Bill Norton, had been a member of the club for nearly 40 years.
Over the winter club teams won the following 25-yard indoor postal competitions: Division 19 of the NSRA's National League; Division 12 of the MRA's Midland League and Division 4 of Herefordshire RA's Hereford League.
Several club members qualified to represent Shropshire in the final stages of national competitions that will take place during the summer at the National Shooting Centre, Bisley. They are Queen Alexandra Cup, Mr Brian Woodall (individual and team) and Mr David Collier and Mr Colin Davies (team); Champion of Champions, Mrs Elizabeth Woodall.
