LOCAL cricket was decimated at the week-end when persistent rain almost completely washed out Saturday and Sunday matches involving south Shropshire clubs.

Ludlow's cricketers spent a fruitless two hours in the pavilion at the Burway before it was decided that there was no chance of play in the scheduled Proactive Personnel Shropshire League Division One match against Market Drayton.

It was a similar story for the second team at Market Drayton where attempts to fork the wicket and get a start in the Reserve Division match were also frustrated by the weather.

Bromfield's two teams also failed to make a start with the Division Three match at Ellesmere and the Division Six match against Quayside abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The Crusader Worcestershire County League programme was also devasted by the weather with both Tenbury teams failing to make a start in their respective Division Four and Reserve Leagues matches.

Knighton-on-Teme's Division Five game at Stourbridge failed to start and their Sunday friendly match against Luctonians was also called off due to the weather.
