TWO stars of the recent Evesham Biathlon were back in action on land and water last week.
Adrian Mayhew and Charlotte Turner faced the challenges of a 300m lake swim and 4K run at South Cerney, near Cirencester where the Midweek Summer Aquathon Series got under way.
Mayhew, representing Team Snugg Wetsuits, didn't have it all his own way as he exited the water in third place.
A solid transition lifted him up to second in the quest to hunt down Army triathlon champion Chris Stuart.
The gap between the two was a mere six seconds and the pair blew the field apart in the run as they raced three minutes clear of the opposition.
However, it was Stuart who made a strong effort to hold off the Evesham all-rounder to claim top spot.
Turner was also pipped for first place after a stuck zip on her wetsuit left the Vale teenager trailing after the swim
The 15-year-old junior international was only 30 seconds behind Mayhew - fifth overall and first lady - when leaving the lake but all time gained was lost during the delayed changeover.
Once out of her wetsuit, Tur-ner produced an outstanding run to claw back time lost on the transition and she raced to finish second overall and top junior female.
Mayhew now moves on to Stratford for a triathlon at the National Expo alongside local teammates Phil and Michelle Parsons, James Fletcher and European Masters swimming champion Michelle Dige.
