A VERY enjoyable and successful coffee morning was held on Saturday, at Elm Grove, Pauntley. Anne and Eric Solesbury welcomed over 60 people to their home for Anne's annual Breast Cancer Research morning. The weather was inclement so that it was not possible to have stalls in their lovely garden. The house and garage were filled with people who supported the stalls, such as the ever popular bring and buy, books, tombola, cakes, produce and plants. The raffle was another popular attraction with some 20 prizes. The first prize winner was Mrs Doreen Thomas.
The Miss Read book entitled Farewell, Thrush Green was won by Mrs Ella De'Ath. This had been donated by Mrs Dora Saint, the author. Between the showers, some of them heavy, guests were able to walk round the extensive and well kept garden. This was much appreciated. Anne and Eric wish to gratefully thank all the helpers who have so loyally and generously continued their help over the years.
They also expressed their thanks to all who supported the stalls, made donations and helped in any way to achieve the sum in excess of £871. This is the largest amount realised in the 17 years that the Breast Cancer Research coffee mornings have been run by Anne and Eric. The money is for Dr J R Owen's Breast Cancer Research fund in Cheltenham Cobalt Unit. It is good to know that the money raised is used locally. Many supporters of the coffee morning are grateful to Anne and Eric for the opportunity to help this good cause and to spend an enjoyable morning at Elm Grove.
The service at St John the Evangelist Church in Pauntley on Sunday was parish communion conducted by the Rev Michael Ward. The organist was Mrs Anne Solesbury. Mr Eric Solesbury, churchwarden acted as bell ringer and sidesman. He also read the lesson.
Next Sunday, the service will be evening prayer at 6pm with Mrs Jessie Williams and the rector, the Rev Patricia Phillips.
Looking ahead to the first Sunday in June, which is June 1, Pauntley have a parish communion to be conducted by the Rev Andrew Perry. All welcome
