A PLAN for a new medical centre in Upton has won the support of the town council.
Members decided on Tuesday to recommend that Malvern Hills District Council approves the plan.
The application for the bottom of Tunnel Hill was submitted in April by doctors at the School Lane surgery. Several councillors voiced concerns about the effects of the development on traffic, environment and the River Severn flood plain. Others defended the plan.
Coun Tina Marshall, a healthcare worker, said: "If this doesn't go ahead then we may be looking at some very major changes to our healthcare. It's very important to the community that we keep a good service here, I don't want to see our healthcare provision deteriorate."
Councillors voted nine to two in favour of the application, with a recommendation that a 30mph speed limit be established on the A4104.
