UPTON's Eric White has survived a call for his resignation as mayor.
At a meeting of the town council on Tuesday, he read out a letter demanding he stand down. He declined to reveal the writer's identity.
The letter said Upton people had voted Coun White off the district council at the election on May 1, after he apparently went against public opinion by voting in favour of the marina development.
Coun White invited fellow councillors to decide his future, as they had voted to keep him as mayor earlier this month.
"You've always been an honourable man," said Coun Neil Culley, who proposed that he should stay. "This sounds like someone trying to impress their opinion on what the council does as a whole."
After a show of hands in his favour, Coun White agreed to stay on as mayor.
