HAVING read the Kennedy review by Jill Hopkins (Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter, May 16), I feel I must express a contrary opinion which I know is shared by a considerable number of people who attended the concert on Friday, May 9.
The first half - unaccompanied Bach - was impressive if you like Bach. Personally, I would have preferred a more varied programme.
The jazz after the interval was so over-amplified we could not hear the music (if you can call it that) clearly. The drummer seemed intent on playing as loudly as he possibly could all the way through.
We were sitting six rows from the front - my ears are still suffering as a result of the noise - which is the only word I can think of to describe it and my youngest daughter was reduced to tears because her ears were hurting so much. We left before the end, as did a number of other members of the audience.
I have been to Nigel Kennedy concerts in the past and sat utterly spellbound through both classical and jazz pieces, however I have no intention of attending another.
