AS a countryside lover I can understand Mr Johnson's concern (Your Letters, May 9) regarding Ledbury ring road extension but I feel Barry Ashton's proposal to finish off the ring road linking Worcester Road and Bromyard Road is very necessary for the preservation of our medieval town and for the peace and safety of people who live in the Worcester Road, Horse Lane Orchard and Knapp Lane.
The traffic is now horrendous in this area, especially when events are frequently held at Eastnor Castle and Malvern showground. The traffic comes to a standstill for hours, causing congestion, noise and exhaust fumes. Juggernaut lorries use the Worcester Road, often damaging the historic buildings and cracking the pavements.
The bypass running from the Gloucester Road to Hereford Road is now looking lovely with the trees, wild flowers and animal life so all is not lost. I for one am hoping and praying the ring road will be finished off and the sooner the better.
MRS M PUGH, Horse Lane Orchard, Ledbury.
