I am in agreement with Martin Johnson (Your Letters, May 9) about the possible extension to the Ledbury bypass from the Bromyard Road round to the Worcester Road.
There seems little point in building a road which would just attract new traffic, particularly heavy lorries, to cut out their M50/M5 trip and just go around Ledbury to Malvern and Worcester.
I don't know whether the people who live at the Knapp Lane and New Mills end of town realise what a noise the traffic will make as it goes up the hill but they have only to listen to the traffic on the bypass now (very little traffic causes a lot of noise). Please can Herefordshire councillors forget about this unnecessary piece of road and leave the countryside in peace?
The second thing I would like to criticise is the proposed new DIY store on the industrial estate.
This is just what Ledbury does not need. We have very good building and DIY shops already and they do not need competition from a big national store. Why are people so intent on making Ledbury just like everywhere else?
And please don't build the outside lift on the Market House either!
