YOUR report on April 18 of the planning meeting to discuss the Upton marina development quoted Coun Mary Wilkinson as saying: "In planning you are representing what is best for the district" as though this were a fact. If so, many voters may feel it a waste of time sending a representative from the town to the district.
In the interests of accuracy I should like to pass on the following clarification after talking with professional staff and a senior district member at Malvern Hills. There is no written regulation or guidance for district councillors on this subject; members are expected to make up their own minds on each planning application how best to balance the interests of town, district and policy.
What Coun Wilkinson seemed to present as an unqualified fact in proposing to vote against officers' recommendation to refuse planning permission can only be described as an opinion, possibly contentious at that.
