THE second of Arden Sailing Club's Wednesday evening series saw representatives of the Solo and Enterprise Fleets start at 7.15pm in a fair breeze and beautiful sunshine.
After a largely close fought race Nial Campbell and Jane Smee won by quite a margin, as Andrew Potts showed his relative inexperience getting caught in the wind shadow of a particularly large tree as the breeze faded to the merest zephyr.
Sunday saw Arden again away from their home club at Defford, this time at Wyre Mill, in a gusty south-westerly wind.
In the first race the Lasers of Richard Coates and Chris Coates from Wyre Mill triumphed in first and second places respectively. Arden's best result was Nial Campbell, third, despite a brief delay on a sandbank.
In the second race there were some unscheduled swimming sessions but Campbell crept up to second place, behind John Street this time and the Coates' Lasers were third and fourth.
So by race three in a fleet of 12 dinghies overall first place was available to several.
Campbell managed to stay ahead of the Lasers, who were second and third and so win race three, with Street in fourth place.
Truly a day of mixed fortunes and when all the arithmetic had been done and everyone had enjoyed the superb tea provided by the host club, the results were announced.
Richard Coates from Wyre Mill and Nial Campbell from Arden won joint first place, John Street from Wyre Mill was third and Chris Coates from Wyre Mill fourth. The racers from Arden left behind their annual invitation to Wyre Mill for a return visit to Defford in September.
