COMMONWEALTH Games mountain bike bronze medalist Liam Killeen raced in the Europe Cup last Saturday in Germany and then flew back to take first place in a British National Points Series race on Sunday.
On Sunday at Catton Hall Liam (Gary Fisher/Subaru) raced in the elite men section. Although he got held up at the start of the race he overhauled leader Barrie Clarke and went on to win comfortably in 1.52.39, nearly three minutes ahead of second-placed Clarke (Giant Racing).
On Saturday in Bad Wildbad, Germany, Liam rode in the second round of the Europe Cup taking second place in the U23 championship in 1.57.48. The U23 winner was German rider Manuel Fumic who won in 1.56.06.
In the opening round of the Europe Cup, held in Belgium, Liam was first home, ahead of second-placed Spanish rider Inaki Lejarreta.
The next rounds of the Europe Cup are in Switzerland on June 9, the Netherlands on June 22 and then the fifth and final round in Italy on July 22.
