THE Malvern United Angling Association's spring league switched to Wednesday evenings for the third of its eight contests.

It was 70's open match star and club stalwart 'Rocket' Ronnie Thomas who showed the way with a winning net of 4-2-0 from peg 4.

Ron showed that he had lost none of the skills that once won him the Wye championship to winkle out two small carp on a very hard day for angling.

In second place, continuing a recent good run in his first season of match fishing with the club, was Pete Fidoe. Pete managed only one carp from peg 18 but it was enough to give him the runners up spot.

Third place went to match star Paul Bick, who took one small carp and some bits for 2-8-0.

Weights were much improved for the latest round of the league and it was match secretary Ian Goddard who took this one, and also the top spot in the league so far, with a nice bag of four carp for 14-4-0. Ian fished on island peg 21.

Paul Bick improved on his third spot the previous week to become the runner up with 12-6-0 from peg 11, Paul also managed four carp but of a smaller stamp to Ian's.

Third place saw Ronnie Thomas once again framing with 6-10-0 which consisted of two carp from peg 17.

At the halfway stage the front runners in the league are: 1 Ian Goddard 15 pts, 2 P Fidoe 10pts, 3 R Thomas 8pts, 4 P Bick 7pts.

The league continues on Wednesday at the pool, draw 6pm.
