WORCESTERSHIRE'S John Bickerton finished with a cheque for £26,230 after finishing joint 23rd in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth yesterday
A final round of four-under-par 68, his best of the tournament, allowed him to climb the leaderboard and complete four days of high quality golf.
Bickerton, however, was still ten shots behind Ignacio Garrido and Trevor Immelman who finished tied on 18 under par after their 72 holes. And it was the 31-year-old Spaniard, Garrido, who beat South African Immelman in a play-off to grab the £414,555 first prize.
Garrido produced a brilliant closing 65, the lowest round of the day, and then capitalised on a stroke of luck in sudden death. His second shot to the par-five 18th headed for the trees, but came down in the clear 50 yards short of the flag, from where he pitched to two feet.
Immelman was on the green in two, but three-putted.
