EX-West Brom star Richard Sneekes has rejected a chance to join Worcester City and instead announced his retirement.
Manager John Barton had been in talks with the Dutch ace, who had been playing in the Danish League until Christmas.
The 34-year-old former Baggies midfielder was also a target for Hednesford Town but has ultimately decided to concentrate on business interests.
John Snape has targeted a City comeback for the Stafford game in two weeks time.
The midfielder is recovering from knee ligament damage sustained during the Tamworth victory a fortnight ago. Snape also suffered a gash in the collision which has healed successfully.
Meanwhile Barton is negotiating to secure the signature of a Dr Martens Premier Division striker to boost his attack.
