TWO prison officers from Long Lartin Prison, near Evesham, are hoping to break a world record today and raise as much money as possible for charity.
Brian Davies and Jeremy Mole are aiming to push a 928kg car as far as possible in 24 hours to raise funds for the Wish Upon A Star charity, which sends terminally ill children on holiday.
The two men will start pushing the Rover MG former rally car, tonight at 8pm, from Norval Road on the Long Lartin housing estate in South Littleton, near Evesham. They hope to beat the record of 33 miles in 24 hours.
In memory
Mr Davies, who is from South Littleton, said he is taking on the challenge in memory of his eight-year-old niece, Aleysha, who died from cancer last year.
"I had a look in the Guinness Book of World Records and saw the car pushing record. I thought that was something we could do," said Mr Davies, aged 40.
Mr Mole, aged 38 and from Redditch, said he is quite nervous about the challenge but is looking forward to doing it.
"My wife works with children and I thought for once in my life I want to have a defining moment - to push myself beyond the normal boundaries and make a lot of money for charity," he said.
