WORCESTER City have had a five figure bid for a 21-year-old midfielder rejected.
It is the second time in recent months that the St George's Lane club has been prepared to break its record transfer fee in order to bolster their championship challenge.
Manager John Barton, who is hoping to extend Mark Blount's loan spell by another month, is also chasing a striker amid another injury crisis at St George's Lane. Stewart Hadley, Mark Owen, John Snape, David Foy, Mark Shail and Marc Burrow are currently sidelined with only Shail likely to return to action in the next two weeks.
"It's frustrating because we have made two bids, which would have broken the club record for transfer fees but both have been rejected," said Barton.
"We are continually trying to bolster the squad with the right quality player."
City are the Dr Martens Premier Division's best-supported club with an average home attendance of 1,220, which is a better average than seven Nationwide Conference sides.
