THEY say form is temporary and that class is permanent which would be a pretty apt way to sum up Darren Middleton.
Worcester City's leading scorer has enjoyed a superb start to the season with five goals to his name and a series of impressive displays.
However, the good form Middleton is experiencing now is a long way off his end of term displays last season when he struggled to find the sharpness that had made him such a threat prior to a knee injury that ruled him out for 19 games.
"It was an exciting start to last season, and I was creating a lot of chances but I found it difficult after coming back and the injury plays on your mind about whether it is totally right," he said.
But after a summer break and a good pre-season, the former Aston Villa and Wolves trainee has emerged rejuvenated and has helped City get off to a tremendous start.
In fact so good that Middleton believes he is going to score every time he takes to the pitch.
"The goals are going in, confidence is growing and at the moment I feel like I'm going to score every game," he said.
"I'm enjoying it up front which is where I started as a youngster, but obviously it takes some time to get used to it again but it's going well.
"We all had high expectations before the season and we don't want to get carried away but we've brought in some good players and the balance of the side is looking very good and at times we have played some exciting football."
One of the players responsible for some of City's best moments is Michael Blackwood, someone who Middleton knows very well after four years together at Villa.
"I've known him since I was 10 and have watched him progress," he added. "He's an exciting player and I think the Worcester fans are warming to him."
City's early season form has brought two bumper Monday night crowds to St George's Lane and Middleton says all the players look forward to the Monday night games at the Lane.
"It is really inspiring and the support generated really gives you a lift like it did against Moor Green after a bit of a slow start," he said.
City are in action again this Monday when they take on Tamworth in a Dr Martens Premier Division game (7.45pm).
