KIDDERMINSTER slumped to a shock five- run defeat after skittling hosts Water Orton out for just 128 in Birmingham League Division One on Bank Holiday Monday.
The visitors won the toss and were in pole position after bowling them out in 50 overs to earn themselves a bonus of five extra overs when they batted.
Unfortunately the feat of scoring 129 runs in 60 proved beyond them.
On a slowish wicket, Ted Baylis, Marc Derrick, Jonathan Wright, and Mark Harrity all bowled well.
Derrick bowled superbly with his 13.3 overs costing just 21 runs and claiming three wickets. He also bowled five maidens, four of them in a row.
Baylis took 3-49, Jonathan Wright 2-36, and Harrity 1-15.
Chris Pyke was responsible for one tremendous run-out and took two catches.
Kidderminster's innings started badly with Joe Hill out for one in the second over. Lawes had scored four when he departed, but Craig Wood and Wright set up a useful partnership which ended when Wright was caught for 48.
Chris Jones was out stumped for a duck Baylis managed just two and when Wood was out for 20 in the 31st over it left the score at 78-6.
Harrity fell for seven to leave the score at 88-7 in the 35th over.
Skipper Sean Lloyd and Pyke rallied the innings with some good running to pick up some quick singles before eventually Lloyd fell to an lbw decision for 11 hard-earned and vital runs.
With two wickets left, 13 runs required and 12 overs to get them, Kidderminster still had victory in sights but wicketkeeper Duncan Willetts hit one four before being promptly bowled.
Marc Derrick came to the crease with nine runs needed. He scored two before being bowled leaving Kidderminster six runs short of victory. Pyke was left unbeaten on 13 runs.
n Kidderminster seconds drew with Moseley. Moseley 207-9; Kevin Barrett 4-49. Kidderminster 167-8; Matt Fludgate 56.
