IT'S unlikely the red carpet will be rolled out for Adam Wilde at St George's Lane tomorrow but it wouldn't matter anyway - the winger is still walking on cloud nine after his England appearance.
The 24-year-old represented the National Game XI against Belgium in Ostend on Tuesday night and despite the 3-1 defeat, Wilde was still buzzing at the memory.
Hopefully a tight hamstring won't prevent him from creating havoc in the Dr Martens Premier Division tomorrow but the prospect of lowly Folkestone Invicta (3pm) does not hold quite the same ring as an international clash against European opposition.
Wilde was thrilled to be picked for England and, aside from a frantic few hours searching for his passport - eventually found in Southampton by his dad - he has nothing but glowing memories from the experience.
"It was unbelievable really, just an amazing experience," he said.
"I didn't know that I'd been selected so when John Barton told me it was a shock but it's an honour to represent your country at whatever level. I would have been happy just to be in the squad so to play was even better.
"Before the match when they were playing the national anthem it sent a shiver down my spine and I know it was non-league but it's the best thing I've ever done - to be stood there in an England kit with the national anthem playing is something you don't think is going to happen to you."
Wilde wore the famous number nine shirt to join a long and illustrious list of players such as Alan Shearer, Jimmy Greaves and Nat Lofthouse who have done the same, albeit at a different level.
Paul Fairclough's England team have another match in Eindhoven against Holland next month and if the Nationwide Conference clubs once again withdraw their players, Wilde is willing and ready to jump at the chance of another appearance.
"They told us to go away, keep our heads down and keep playing well," said Wilde.
"The Conference teams might release their players next time but if they don't I'll be more than happy to go and play in the PSV Eindhoven stadium - no trouble."
It's back to league action tomorrow, hamstring permitting, and Wilde is hoping for an upturn in City's fortunes against second-from-bottom Folkestone, after last week's 2-1 defeat at Stafford put a huge dent in their title aspirations.
"It just didn't come off for us at Stafford. I had a free kick that was going in but it was deflected twice," he said.
"We really need to start getting some consistency but it's going to be difficult because Folkestone will be scrapping for every point.
"But if you look at our respective standings we've got to be thinking about taking three points from the game."
City's reserves are at Rugby United in the Midland Combination.
FORMCAST: City will return to winning ways with a 2-0 victory.
