A CHANCE to reinstate a lost service at Upton-upon-Severn is to be pursued by the town council.
It is thought that a proposed new community medical centre at Tunnel Hill would provide an ideal base for a registrar, lost to the town more than two years ago.
"It's an awful inconvenience for people to have to go to Malvern to register a birth or death, or to book a wedding.
"They are very kind and helpful when you get there, but it's very bad for anyone to get to Malvern," said former district councillor Betty Williams, who has urged the council to press for the return of the registrar.
Meeting
"We used to have a registrar in New Street for years and if we could get one back in Upton that would be great," she said.
The mayor, Coun Eric White, read out a letter from Mrs Williams at this month's town council meeting and members agreed to press for the return of the registrar.
Afterwards, Dr George Wilson, senior partner in Upton GP practice, welcomed the idea of having a registrar at the new medical centre.
"If the registrar would like some space at the centre, the doctors would be delighted to offer them some accommodation," he said.
