THE North Midlands rugby team, featuring five members of Bromsgrove RFC First XV, missed out on promotion to next season's Tetley's County Championship with a 38-12 play-off defeat to Hertfordshire.
Jon Taylor, Tom Churchill, Richard Arnold and coaches David Stout and David Wilkinson were given a second bite at the promotion cherry after North Midlands were beaten 27-19 by Northumberland in the semi-finals of the Tetley's County Shield last week.
But defeat at Kidderminster last Saturday means they will play in the Shield again for the third consecutive season.
Despite being forced to make ten changes to their starting line-up, North Midlands started well and scored a try inside 15 minutes through Will Bevan.
He was followed to the line by Mark Williams.
But North Midlands faded in the second half and two tries from David Rose took Hertfordshire to victory.
