HEART-WARMING northern tale Brassed Off brings the mining town of Grimley to Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Based on the well-loved film from the 1990s and adapted by Paul Allen, the production is a collaboration between Birmingham REP and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse.
The story starts when management threatens to close the pit and the colliery band is on the verge of splitting up.
Then local girl Gloria returns to her home town, rekindling enthusiasm and romance.
The role of Gloria is taken by Lois Naylor, a part which requires her to play the famous Flugel Horn solo Concerto De Orange Juice on stage.
Danny will be played by Bernard Kay, who appeared in A Man For All Seasons at The REP and in the film Doctor Zhivago.
Janice McKenzie, best known as Gloria Weaver in Emmerdale, takes on the role of Rita.
The cast also includes Ken Bradshaw, Bill Fellows, James Hornsby, Kate Rutter, Toby Sawyer and Jo-Anne Stockham.
A special feature will be live music by Stourport-on-Severn, City of Birmingham and Jackfield Elcock Reisen brass bands.
Brassed Off runs from May 29 until June 21 and tickets cost £12-£18.75 (plus concessions) on 0121 236 4455 or www.birmingham-rep.co.uk
