THE man who founded Solihull Borough FC has been rewarded for his efforts by the FA.
Wootton Wawen resident Joe McGorian has won a Football Association medal for 50 years of continuous service to the sport.
Joe, of North Drive, had a short-lived post-war playing career with Sheldon Town but was forced to retire at the age of 23 by a knee injury.
Unable to play, Joe founded the Lincoln Road Olton team in 1953 and managed a side largely made up of ex national servicemen.
The club progressed through local leagues and the Midland Combination to reach the Southern League.
Sixth in the Premier Division of the Dr Martens League is the club's best finish to date and Dave Busst's side now play at Damson park after several years groundsharing.
Joe is Life President of the club.
