DROITWICH Spa Football Club is all-set to build a new stand on its King George Playing Fields ground to aid a bid for promotion.
The club, who finished third in Midland Combination division two, their highest position ever, has applied to join division one when the Combination structure for next season is decided.
Barnt Green Spartak will definitely go up as champions, but second place Littleton and Spa are both being considered for the step up.
But in order to play in division one, they need to meet ground requirements set down by the league. That means Spa need to build a covered standing area with concrete floor to house 100 people.
Work on the structure, to be located on the side of the pitch closest to the Leisure Centre, in Briar Mill, will begin later this week in time for an inspection this Saturday.
Officials are visiting grounds across the league this Saturday before finalising promotion and relegation places and Kevin Blaber's side expect to learn their fate following a Midland Football Combination meeting on Monday, June 9.
Blaber said: "We have been told to make the improvements, but we will be disappointed if we are not accepted."
Midland Combination secretary Norman Harvey said it was all down to the day and what work had been carried out by various clubs.
He added: "If none of the work has been done, they (Droitwich) will not go up, but if 100 per cent of it has been done, they stand a good chance."
And boss Blaber said new players coming to the club would depend on which division they are in, but he has already re-signed goalkeeper Simon Williams.
Williams, who left for West Midlands Police last season, was replaced between the posts for much of the season by Nick West.
West was named player of the season runner-up at an awards night for all Spa clubs last Saturday at the Copcut Elm, in Worcester Road.
Andy Keenahan, who scored 27 goals for the side last season, was named player of the year and players' player of the year.
Andy Holliday, manager of Spa's Sunday First XI, was clubman of the season.
Blaber is also on the lookout for a new physio and fundraiser. Call him on 07786 217437.
