NOT many fisheries allow the use of macaroni cheese as a bait but where it is allowed it can have a devastating effect.
Last Tuesday, May 20, Stan James (Bewdley) used this magic concoction to win the Northfield Starlets Veterans contest at Elmbridge fisheries Heron pool peg 27 to take 18 Carp for 52-9-0. Mick Scott (Bewdley) was second with 37-13-0 and Harold Willey (Kidderminster) third with 28-15-0 from Peacock pool peg 18.
Wednesday's Astwood Fisheries Buddleia pool open saw fishery regular John Halfpenny (Astwood) take a clear victory by pole fishing corn at peg 53 for an all-Carp catch of 58-0-0. Second, Clive Duggan (Droitwich Angling Centre), had 35-13-0 with third going Rob Francis' (Droitwich Angling Centre) 35-6-0.
The Moorlands Farm Meadow pool open was topped by Steve Watson (Moorlands) by waggler fishing catmeat at peg 11 for 50-4-0. Gavin Daley (WB Clarke) took 47-13-0 for second while third was Pete Wellington (Moorlands) with 40-10-0.
Thursday's Moorlands Farm Costcutter open went to Brian Cawley (Strike Angling) with 51-10-0 of Bream and Carp taken with pole and corn from Bank pool peg 17. Daley was second again with 49-6-0; third, Mal Coley (West Mids), 47-8-0.
The KH Veterans held their event on Woodlands View's Barley and Hay pools with Terry Kavanagh (Stourbridge) taking a close verdict by pole fishing corn and meat in the margins of Hay pool peg two for 31-12-0 of small Carp and Tench. Joint second were Geoff Carter (Kings Norton) and Mick Scott (Bewdley) with 29-6-0.
The Midland Bears Disabled AA saw Keith Chambers (Shirley) in first place when he pole fished corn on peg 49 at Woodlands Views Deans pool for 33-2-0. He was followed by Terry Shipley (Birmingham) with 31-0-0; third, Vic Cutts (Aston), 30-8-0.
Woodlands View's Friday afternoon open was held on Arles pool with Welsh matchman Gilels Cochrane (Pill Angling) taking a close victory by fishing a maggot feeder to the island from peg 12 alternating corn and meat on the hook for 46-10-0. Mark Westwood (Wooldlands) was second, taking 46-5-0 with third going to Dave Hollands' (Shimano Portway) 38-8-0.
Saturday's Woodlands View Deans pool open was won by Matt Tranter (Sensas Midland Match) with a pole and chopped worm catch of 72-10-0 from peg 62. Runner-up Les Thompson (Shakespeare) had 48-12-0 and Steve Ford (DGL) took 48-8-0 for third.
At Broad Acres, the Main pool open was headed by John Harris (Triplex) by pole fishing casters up in the water at peg 25 for 27-8-0. Second was Alan Hook (Broad Acres MG) with 20-12-0 and third, Geoff Hunt (Triplex), taking15-14-0.
Round three of the Moorlands Farm Summer League saw Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) lead his team to a joint victory with a 54-9-0 Carp catch taken with pole chopped worms and casters fished up in the water from Bank pool peg four.
Second was Sean McCarthy (Coopers Clan) with 50-8-0; third, Stuart Pulsar (Shakespeare), 46-8-0.
Shakespeare and Mosella South West won the day with nine points; Strike Angling 17. League leaders are Strike Angling with seven points; Shakespeare 11 and Lifestyle VDE and Gold 13.
The Moorlands Farm Sunday open gave McKinnon (Shakespeare) a weekend double victory when he pole fished corn and pellets up in the water at Meadow pool peg 39 for 60-7-0 of Carp. Ian Lockley (Map Starlets) missed out by one fish with 59-13-0 and third was Lee Richards (Lifestyle), taking 55-5-0.
The Selly Oak open on the Birmingham Worcester Canal was won by Rubery canal expert Keith Woodhead (Ovation Leisure) with a pole, pinkie and squats Gudgeon catch of 3-4-0. Barry Coggan (Stan Jones) was second with 3-3-7 and third went to Mark O'Donnall's (Yardley Wood Soc) 2-12-3.
Anthony Rogers (Preston Innovations) was a clear winner of the Woodlands View open when he put 95-15-0 on the scales by pole fishing corn and meat at Deans pool peg 25. Second was Simon Richardson (Fosters Tipton VDE) with 50-10-0; third, Mike Parks (Sensas Midland Match), 45-4-0.
The Astwood Fisheries' Smokey Joes pool open went to Scott Smith (Smithies Tackle) with a waggler and corn catch of 24-12-8 from peg 30. Second, Colin Hickman (Bilston AC), 20-13-8; third, Ricky Walker (Smithies Tackle), 19-3-0.
