BROMSGROVE'S Coronation beacon was in the process of being built at Breakback with the assistance of Wilfred Dunn of East Lodge Farm and the Evergreen Rover Crew. In recognition of their hard work in preparing and guarding the beacon the Rovers drew lots for lighting it at 10.30pm on Coronation night.
DANCES and celebrations were aplenty over the weekend and on Coronation Eve, as part of the festivities for the Coronation on Tuesday June 2, 1953.
MEMBERS of the Bromsgrove Rural District Council met and were presented with souvenir mugs of the Coronation year. The mugs were filled with beer and they drank to the health of the Queen. The chairman Dr Chas Hicks said: "Beer was the traditional drink of the English countryside".
