A CLUB qualifier at Broadway for the 2003 Douglas Bader competition saw husband and wife team Shaun and Debbie Thornhill emerge victorious.
Amassing 42 stableford points in the mixed greensome competition, the winning pair had only one point to spare from club captain Harry Roberts and wife Liz who narrowly edged out 2002 winners Mike and Lin Everitt into third on a countback.
The winning pair will participate in the regional final later in the summer.
The ladies posted a magnificent 3-1 away win at Ross-on-Wye in the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday competition.
They will now play host to Leominster in the fifth round.
In the Daily Mail Four-somes tournament, Jenny Bruton and Pam Hooper won their second round match, also at Ross, and will now play a pairing from Cotswold Hills.
Cath Lee continued her run of excellent form in spite of difficult weather conditions to take the Margaret Roberts Trophy - a flag competition - ahead of Veronica Rudd.
In a ladies stableford, Henrietta Cooke again proved her ability to play good golf in poor weather returning a score of 40 points to win the Silver Division.
Making a comeback after a prolonged period of injury and, armed with a new driver in her bag, Sue Carter took first place in Bronze Division One with 37 points on countback from Hazel Dickinson.
Andrea Stedman posted the round of the day with a magnificent 46 points to take Bronze Two.
Pat Righton was declared the winner of the Vets Millennium Salver run in conjunction with the stableford and her 33 points was sufficient to also take second place in the Silver Division.
In the second LGU Medal of the season, no one could beat the tremendous net 65 posted by Ann Brown who took first place in Bronze Two ahead of Jo Davis and Alma Harrison.
Jill Miller's net 70 and Diana Chambers' net 71 gave them first and second places in the Silver Divi-sion, while Bronze One was headed by Vivien Milner (net 73) on a countback from Vera Linley.
