President Sue Taylor was welcomed back to Lickey WI after her slightly longer than planned absence in New Zealand. Following the business meeting, Sue gave a short account of her recent travel experiences, including attending a WI meeting in New Zealand.
Members learnt that their counterparts on the other side of the world have much in common with the British WI's.
The skittles team were congratulated on their efforts over the season, having won three out of their five matches. A Hillside Group skittles event was planned for June 2. Bowls had recommenced on Monday mornings, weather permitting. Deposits were taken for the outing to Berkeley Castle in June.
Three resolutions for the AGM were debated which included issues on child obesity and care of the elderly.
Several members had brought displays of their hobbies and crafts which ranged from a collection of rare "Noddy" toys to examples of fine artistic talent. The exhibits showed the varied skills and interests of members who were thanked for sharing their works and collections with each other.
The bring and buy table was well supported. Ingrid Greening, Yvonne Marshall and Margaret Rogers were all lucky raffle winners. All entries for the competition for "A Good Joke" were ably read aloud by Pat Schofield. The winning joke was submitted by Sue Mayne.
At the next meeting on Tuesday, June 3, Alan Blackwell will speak on "Hearing Dogs for the Deaf". The competition will be for "A Dog Collar".
