A TOWN Labour councillor, who claims that bus services in Droitwich are "unacceptable" is calling for a public meeting.

The town's transport representative, Cllr John Cook (Droitwich West) has decided enough is enough and is proposing to meet up with First bus service operators about the Chalverton Court to town centre service.

He said: "I am very concerned about the bus service. The hourly service is unacceptable and will not be accepted by the elderly and people travelling to work.

"They are there to run a business and yet we have found many buses are late, leaving the elderly standing around sometimes for up to two hours, while some buses fail to turn up at all."

He claimed that the 20A service scheduled to arrive at 9.10am last Tuesday (May 20) failed to turn up until twenty minutes later and on the same day the 10am return service did not turn up at all.

"I am going to approach the town council at the next opportunity about a public meeting so that we can meet with the bus operator and address the problem."

Terminated

Spokesman for First, Dawid Maciejewski claimed the 10am service was terminated due to a traffic jam on the A38 following an accident but found no evidence of the 9.10 service turning up late on the same day.

Mr Maciejewski added they were very much involved with the Droitwich Older People's forum, working together to help Spa residents but said this regrettable incident was out of their control.

"Fortunately this does not happen on a regular basis, but if anyone has any problems we would appreciate it if people let us know and we will look into them on an individual basis," he added.
