IT is the beginning of a new era for Spa councillor, Jan Bolton who inherited the chains to become new town mayor at last Monday night's town council meeting.

Reporter, Lisa Heritage popped along to her family business, Executive Cleaners in High Street to find out more about her life, hobbies and aspirations for the forthcoming year.

Jan Bolton moved to Droitwich Spa from Birmingham in 1965 where her parents set up a dry cleaning service in the High Street in 1973.

But her first taste of politics did not come until much later when a fellow colleague, Eileen Hope asked her to stand as a candidate.

"I have now been involved with the town council for five years, but previously served as a councillor for the former Central ward, which has now changed to East."

"I have always felt passionate about the town and was absolutely delighted to be elected by my fellow councillors this year," she said.

The Cockshute Hill resident brought up her daughter, Sue and two sons Richard and Ross in Droitwich but has always managed to find the time to throw her whole-hearted support behind community events.

She is one of the founders of the Droitwich Association of Retail and Tourism (D.A.R.T) and a dedicated member of the town's carnival committee where she is presently busy drumming up support for this year's event.

Janet, who is a keen gardener, has also attended events for Cancer Research, The Leisure Link scheme, Christmas lights Consortium and attended the opening of the new Westlands WANDS centre in Farmer's Way on Friday, May 16 .

Now, filling the shoes of former town mayor, Terry Spencer, Jan wants to support Spa teenagers especially and she has selected two charities to raise money for during her term of office. These are the Norbury Theatre and the Spa's Army Cadets and Queen's Royal Hussars.

Business

She is also looking forward to attending events as new town mayor, including the Worcester Civic service and Chamber of Commerce Business Day.

Looking back on her time on the Town Council, Jan told the Advertiser/ Messenger: "I enjoyed every one of the four years I was on the town council and particularly the time spent as deputy mayor to Terry Spencer."

Now, ready to put 100 per cent into her new role as mayoress, Jan added: "I am really hoping that all the councillors, from all parties will work together and collaborate this year to give us their very best."
