SAINSBURY'S has announced preliminary results for the year to March 29, 2003, with a profit before tax for the group of £667m - up 16.8 per cent on last year.
Total sales for the supermarket giant were £15,301m, up three per cent since 2002.
Sir Peter Davis, group chief executive of Sainsbury's - which has stores in the Lychgate Shopping Centre, Worcester, and in Blackpole, Worcester - had made "sound progress".
"We have continued to deliver on our promises during the past year, despite increasingly tougher market conditions," he said.
"We are reporting a second consecutive year of double-digit growth in underlying group profit before tax, at 10.8 per cent, and an increase in underlying operating profit growth for Sainsbury's Supermarkets of 13.3 per cent."
Sainsbury's has a long association with Worcester, having opened its first store in the Faithful City in 1967.
