BEN Hinshelwood is definitely out of Worcester's all-important showdown at Rotherham on Saturday.
The centre, who enjoyed his second taste of Murrayfield action at the weekend when he came on as a 75th minute replacement in Scotland's momentous victory over South Africa, will again be included in the national squad against Fiji on Sunday.
That means that Hinshelwood is unavailable for Worcester's vital clash at Millmoor 24 hours earlier despite a last minute bid by Sixways' coach Andy Keast to get him released for the promotion shoot-out.
Keast knows Scotland coach Ian McGeechan from their British Lions days and was hoping that a call would smooth the way for the 25-year-old to return to Sixways after being on the bench for Scotland's two Autumn internationals so far.
"I've spoken to Ian and he is very pleased with Ben," said Keast. "He is looking to give him more time on Sunday against Fiji so that was that really.
"It is a bit of a blow but I think John Brain and myself have been prepared for this for some time now. We knew he would be in the squad for the three internationals and it's just a fact of life when you are successful. If we do get into the Premiership then we will have this scenario much more often."
Rotherham are also likely to be handicapped by international call-ups for Saturday with Ramiro Pez set to play for Italy against Australia.
However, bringing Hinshelwood back into the Sixways fold would have been a major boost for Keast and director of rugby Brain who are already counting the cost of Saturday's 36-0 victory over Wakefield.
Richard Bates, Gavin Pfister, Richard Nias, James Ogilvie-Bull and Werner Swanepoel all had to leave the field with injuries. Pfister (broken nose) and Swanepoel (elbow) look to be the least worrying, but Bates faces a race to be fit for Rotherham, while Ogilvie-Bull looks to be out with a twisted knee.
Despite being stretchered off, Nias was given the all clear by doctors yesterday but Bates is the biggest worry for Worcester after suffering a shoulder injury.
